Storage technology
Storage technology in the oil & gas and Chemical Process Industry (CPI), including pressure vessels, tanks, and containment systems, operates under demanding conditions such as high internal pressures, temperature fluctuations, and exposure to aggressive media like hydrocarbons, acids, and cryogenic fluids. Material requirements are therefore focused on high strength, excellent toughness—especially at low temperatures—corrosion resistance, and resistance to stress corrosion cracking and hydrogen embrittlement. Long-term structural integrity and dimensional stability are critical to ensure safe storage and transport of hazardous substances.
BÖHLER high-performance steels and alloys are specifically engineered to meet these stringent requirements. Advanced low-alloy steels, quenched and tempered grades, as well as corrosion-resistant stainless steels including austenitic and duplex types, provide optimized combinations of strength, toughness, and environmental resistance. For cryogenic LNG applications, materials with superior low-temperature toughness are essential. Produced using advanced melting and refining technologies, BÖHLER materials ensure exceptional cleanliness, low inclusion levels, and homogeneous microstructures. Key quality features include strict chemical composition control, certified traceability, and validated heat treatment processes. Comprehensive testing, including fracture toughness, corrosion behavior, and non-destructive inspection, ensures compliance with industry standards. BÖHLER materials enable safe, durable, and reliable storage solutions for critical oil & gas and CPI applications.
